Event Project

For my Cinematography module and Editing and Structures module of the Film and TV Production course, one of my assignments was called ‘The Event Project’

The brief that we were given was: 'You are asked to shoot documentary video material of an event.'

This was shot for the Cinematography module while it was edited in the Editing and Structures module.

Unfortunately I am unable to embed the video but you can find it on Vimeo via this link: https://vimeo.com/55031825

Location Project

For my Cinematography module of the Film and TV Production course, one of my assignments was called 'The Location Project'

The brief that we were given was: 'You must tell a story about a location that is personal to you. The location may be a busy place or a quiet one - it can be constructed or already in existence. It is essential that the viewer is able to understand something about your connection with the location.'

I shot this film at my grandparents' house just outside London.

Unfortunately Blogger will not allow me to embed it but here's the link: https://vimeo.com/55030764

Radio Presenting!

After taking part in the marathon that Cam FM 97.2 did the other week I've become an official radio presenter for the station! During the marathon I did my sit in sessions, training and assessment!

Knowing what goes on behind scenes and not just listening to music that comes onto the airwaves has been a real eye opener. I'm a lot more appreciative of what happens on radio as I know how difficult it can be sort things out tech wise.

The show that I'm presenting is The Rock Show with David Clouter and Chris Berrow. Both of these guys have a few years experience with radio presenting. If you love classic rock tune in from 9pm every Tuesday! I'll be bringing the newer rock bands/songs.You can find us on Facebook and join the group if you check out the links below.

We are featuring bands local to Cambridge so if you're a band looking for some air time then send me an email and I'll pass your details onto Chris Berrow who is in charge of interviews with bands.

Tom Heath

Last week I took part in a 76 hour radio marathon. We had some fantastic presenters and hilarious games. However the live talent probably was one of my highlights.

I present you Tom Heath!

Tom is an acoustic singer/songwriter based in Rochester/Cambridge. He performed Caged Lions and Settle Down on Cam FM 97.2 live.

When he was rehearsing and doing a sound check I got chills going up and down my spine. And when he started performing for us in the studio, as well as on air, I was not disappointed. His voice has the power to sooth  and give you goosebumps at the same time.He may be young and somewhat new to the music scene but Tom's got a lot of talent.

Go and support Tom; you won't regret it!

Stripe Nails

In order to achieve this nail design I painted my nails with 'Berry' by Barry M. Waited for my nails to completely dry. I cut up strips of cello-tape and placed them on my nails, leaving a gap between two strips. I filled the gap with a dark purple nail varnish by Rimmel; waited for the varnish to turn into a goo before pulling the cello-tape away. This left me with the design you see above. I finished it off with putting a clear coat on top.

Vimeo

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted for a while but I've been super busy with my course. To keep an eye on what I've been doing I have created a Vimeo account which you can find here: https://vimeo.com/kimberleymbates. I will be posting videos that I think are worth showing people and hopefully you'll be able to see a progress with my work.

This is the first 'video' I put up on Vimeo. It's actually just audio as the task brief was to tell a story through sound: https://vimeo.com/52241911

Vans Off The Wall Tour - October 17, 2012

I went to the Vans Off The Wall Tour last night at the O2 Academy in Sheperd's Bush Empire in London. The line up was Marmazots, Your Demise, We Are The In Crowd, and Young Guns. IF you haven't heard of any of these bands then stop reading right now and check them out. I took my small Canon digital camera and took some photos. Here are some of the better ones.

Film Assignment

Today Aiden and I went on a walk around Cambridge trying to find the locations we wanted to use for our film assignment for the Screen and Drama module of the course.

For the film assignment we are to make a short film, 3 to 5 minutes long, with the brief:
'A boy is attracted to a girl. It appears the girl gives him a sign. The boy chases the girl. The final twist.'

The next set of instructions we were given read:

'Try to enrich the story as much as you can; you can change the circumstances, gender of the characters, place the action of the film in different surroundings, make it a period piece, science fiction, a farce, comedy, tragedy, whatever.'

We've come up with a story line and found our locations so all we need now is to pitch the film and hopefully get the go ahead to film this.

Here are some of the photos from today; with a few fun ones:

Art in Cambridge

I've taken a few trips to Asda down the road from where I'm staying. I've walked past this building each time ; the art on the walls have captivated me. This art can be found on Newmarket Road in Cambridge.

Here are some photos I took.

These last two are my favourites I think.
